Athena at 4 Months!

Athena Lee turned 4 months old yesterday. Similarly to the way she waited until right after our friends left town to perform her first trick (being born -- tada!), Athena was apparently waiting for Papa to leave to do her trick of rolling over for the first time (front to back), which she did today. Apparently she doesn't like to have a big audience, unlike a certain other child in this household....

We had a lovely visit with Papa as usual. It's always so sweet to watch my daddy love and be loved by my little girls. Nanny broke her wrist recently and decided at the last minute not to come. She was supposed to come a few days after Papa so would have had to navigate the airport by herself. We explained this to Mazie, and she thought about it for a while and then suggested that Papa should fly back to Washington so that he could hold her hand "over the bumps" and bring her here. I passed the idea along but they decided to wait until Nanny's wrist gets better to make the trip.


Here are Thena's 4 month stats: 14 lbs 2 oz (63rd percentile), 25.5 inches long (90th percentile), and 15.5 inch head circumference (11th percentile -- still a pinhead!). The doctor confirmed that she continues to be a healthy, thriving baby. She is a darling, smiley, sweet little person and we love her to pieces.

Oh, and Sunday was my 32nd birthday. We had a lovely day complete with ice skating in the morning, a dramatic Broncos win in the afternoon, and belly dancing at an awesome birthday dinner with friends and family.

Merry Christmas!

Swimmers!

We've managed to get Athena in the pool a couple of times. The first time was just for a couple of minutes (since we got there as the pool was closing) on Oct 25, and then we had a longer swim on Nov 8. The kid pool at our Louisville Rec Center is bathtub-warm, so PERFECT for the little one. She loved the water, splashed and kicked her legs, and even let me dunk her a few times with no complaints. So she's on track to be a water baby just like her sister!




Mazie, meanwhile, has become quite the swimmer -- she's getting really good at flipping over onto her back and resting, and with this new technique she managed to swim about 50 ft on her own at our last visit. She took lessons at the outdoor pool next to our house this summer, and she'll start lessons again in January.

Halloween

Very belatedly, here are some pics and videos from our Halloween this year. Caleb and I dressed up as a zombie doctor and nurse again (since we live in the old hospital), and Mazie and Athena dressed up as their special animals (elephant and tiger). We sort of make an odd bunch.



On the Saturday before Halloween, Louisville had a "Monster Dash" series of races -- Mazie participated in the shortest one, which went about 100 yards.



And here's the big girl trick-or-treating. Like last year, we managed to get away with just doing the 12 or so houses on our block, and then hung out at home giving out candy to the other trick-or-treating kids.

October Snow

We had our first snow of the season this week. Mazie and I made snowmen in our yard while Athena was napping, and then Athena woke up and I went in to get her. When I came downstairs this was what I saw....

Oh, young love.

Happy Birthday, Ahya!

We had a birthday dinner for Ahya at Great Barb and G'G'pa's house on Tuesday. Here's a great picture of Ahya with her granddaughters!
